The Necessary Means of Business and. Communication Degrees in the College Setting
Many people may notice that. a business major will usually have communications as their minor. That is because they both fall hand in hand, especially when people in this day and age are so reliant on social media for communication and business needs.Employers are also very reliant on these degrees, they are some of the most important degrees in the business world. We need tons of communication in the business world, as well as many different positions within business. There is so much more than what meets the eye within these degrees.
One of the most important reasons that college students graduate with a communication degree is due to the fact that most college graduates now possess the knowledge and skills employers need and want. They demonstrate strong verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills and have considerable expertise in speaking well in front of small and large audiences. Personally for my degree, I am double majoring in business marketing and communication with a focus in social media and public engagement. More of my degree focuses toward non verbal communication as well as written communication. Speaking more on social media and public engagement, the main way of getting information and engagement from the public is through social media. Without the engagement social media is just media. Social media is there to seek connections with people as well as brands, hence the public engagement side. Social media isn’t just a one-way communication platform, it’s very two sided. Without that, Nobody would use social media. People post on social media to get reactions from people. If they were to post a picture on Instagram. They want comments,likes, and shares. They want that interaction with their “fans”, family, and friends. Social media engagement is a measure of how people are interacting with your social media accounts and content. There is so much that can come from a communications degree. So many different types of communication and ways to engage people.
Moving toward the business side of it all, it is definitely the most important piece when it comes to going into a new job after you have graduated. A business degree gives you knowledge and skills that employers want and that translate across many roles and industries. You will have the opportunity to apply your education, grow your experience, and maybe even combine your passions in a variety of industries such as: Marketing. Doing some research on post college experience and jobs within the business field, as we all know, we are currently in a pandemic. According to a recent survey by the National Association for Business Economics, 72% of economists believe a recession will begin by the end of 2021. One of the side effects of a recession is increased unemployment. However, a business degree may help you ride out another recession. According to the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), following the Great Recession between 2007 and 2009, 86% of business school graduates found employment in 2011 after earning their degree. Business degree graduates often enter in-demand career fields such as financial management, information technology, management, and human resource management. This is a great opportunity for students to have. Being able to worry a little bit less about whether you’ll find a job after a recession or even during a recession, it is great to know that business majors have that opportunity.
We also find that no matter the career path you choose to take, there will always be a job related to business. A strong overall understanding of how business works helps you make more well-rounded business decisions. That business knowledge is critical in financial or accounting roles, but also at all levels of management or when starting and running your own business. For example, a person with a degree in information technology who gained core business knowledge in their studies will likely make better decisions because they understand how they affect the business. Lastly,a business degree is so broad and wide ranged. You can find a job related to business pretty much anywhere. It’s a great way to also build on you education. That’s what’s important about post college, you are still learning even though you’re no longer in classes.
Being educated is very important, whether it is a business degree, or a criminal justice degree. I’m not saying you NEED to go to college, but it will help you a lot more in the long run. No matter what you choose to do. Business and communication will show up somehow or someway in whatever job or senario you end up in. It is much more important to those employers if you have the knowledge they want you to have.
